COLUMBIA — Three Columbia State Community College marketing students have turned a study abroad experience in Iceland into a practical tourism proposal for the town of Fairview, Tennessee. Gabby Curtis of Fairview, Xavier Viazcan of Lewisburg, and Montserrat Coronado of Spring Hill developed a concept called "Fairview on Two Wheels" — a tourism prototype centered on cycling trails, rail bike dining experiences, and promotion of local restaurants and small businesses.

The students participated in the Tennessee Board of Regents Global Studies Iceland program, a 10-week course that included presenting their Fairview campaign to students at the University of Iceland and receiving feedback from a professional tourism advisor. Curtis said the spring break trip to Iceland was unforgettable, and that meeting with a tourism advisor helped the team rethink their campaign so it could connect with a wider audience. She noted that seeing how Iceland celebrates its landscapes and culture made her realize the same storytelling approach could work for Fairview.

The project included a fully developed website built using AI design tools and a comprehensive strategic marketing plan. It is exactly the kind of creative, community-minded work that demonstrates the value of Columbia State's programs for students across Maury and surrounding counties.
