COLUMBIA — The stretch of Bear Creek Pike running from Nashville Highway to Interstate 65 is set for a major transformation, after the Tennessee Department of Transportation included the project in its 10-Year Project Plan through the Statewide Partnership Program. The announcement was made by the City of Columbia in April.

TDOT has committed up to $180 million toward the project, with the City of Columbia pledging $1 million annually for 10 years — a $10 million local match. Construction is currently anticipated in 2037. The project will address roadway safety, traffic flow, and connectivity for residents, businesses, and emergency services along the busy SR-99 corridor. TDOT Commissioner Will Reid credited Columbia's financial participation as a key factor in elevating the project within the state's long-range plan.

Mayor Molder described the effort as a long-term, measured approach to real transportation needs. The scale and complexity of the project mean TDOT will lead delivery in coordination with the city. Residents who travel Bear Creek Pike daily know the corridor well — and know it needs the work.
